Napoleon’s ‘100 Days’ started when he escaped from the isle of Elba and marched on Paris. The Bourbon King, Louis XVIII, fled for his life. Napoleon quickly organized an army and crossed the frontier. to face the double threat of Blucher’s Prussians & the Duke of Wellington’s Anglo- Dutch-Belgium troops. Napoleon defeated the Prussians at Ligny but Wellington held Marshal Ney at Quatre Bra. Two days later, Sunday 18 June, Wellington with the late but timely arrival of Blucher’s forces defeated Napoleon at the famous Battle of Waterloo.

THE SOCIETY'S TOUR

The Society gave its first Waterloo trip 24 years ago and have been giving regular visits ever since. We start in Brussels and follow the route taken by Wellington’s Army to Waterloo. First we visit the Duke’s HQ, now a museum before moving on to visit both Quatre Bra & Ligny and then Napoleon’s HQ the night before the battle. We have two days to spend walking the whole battlefield including the important sites including the farm houses held by the Allies, the Fallen eagle monument and atop the great mound where we have a panoramic view of this famous battlefield
